For Stroke Foundation of Bengal (SFB) World Stroke Day is not a single day event or single year event. Distributing stroke leaflets in Bengali, newsletter (Stroke Bulletin in English and Bengali), screening of Bengali stroke documentary and seminars for health care professionals as well as awareness programs for the common man is our forte. Earlier this year All India radio (AIR), our national radio agency and Doordarshan (National Television Network featured Prof. D.K.Mandal, President, SFB in an awareness program. On 29th a health camp was held at AMRI Hospitals, Kolkata under the aegis of SFB. Around 50 people were screened for high BP, blood sugars followed by an awareness program where Prof.Mandal reiterated the importance of this year’s WSD,”I am woman”, risks of stroke in women and the preventive methods. He also talked about the Stroke Riskometer app. This was followed by an interactive session between the audience and the doctors.Dr.A.Shobhana, Secretary, SFB explained the concept of World Stroke Day, the themes all these years along with special emphasis on this year’s theme of “I am Woman”, stroke recognition, timely management, prevention and use of mobile apps on three consecutive days from 29th -31st October in AIR’s “Apnar Swasthya (Your Health) program.
